True teachers have a calling to teach, and they have God-given gifts which give them the grace to sacrifice time from their lives for their students. They work long hours at school and long hours at home, and even spend money from their own personal finances so that they can be the best teachers possible.
Anita designed this cross with the inscription on the back "Above and Beyond the Call of Duty," to honor all those teachers whose work goes beyond an eight hour workday. The front of the cross is made to look like old children's building blocks. The blocks are symbolic of the lessons that are taught; one lesson lays a foundation, upon which many more lessons are added. Not only are lessons of knowledge taught, but lessons which also build moral character within the students.
This cross made to look like building blocks is a symbol of teaching that builds knowledge and characters within students' lives, block upon block, and precept upon precept.
